ur doin it wrong

Written by patty on September 3rd, 2008

I don’t care what her family situation is. And Rudy is right – how dare anyone question her ability to serve as Vice President because she’s a mom? When was the last time we questioned a man’s ability to lead the country because he’s a father?  1960 just called and it’s even more offended than I am.

I’m not going to criticize her for going back to work when her baby was young. We do what we have to do. I am not going to criticize her for bringing up her daughter to think that premarital sex and – GASP! – contraception is wrong. Her child, her choice (and I use that word on purpose). I am not going to criticize her for thrusting her pregnant daughter into the national spotlight, because it’s none of my business. I am not going to criticize her experience, because frankly Washington could use a fresh breath of air or two.

There’s no way in hell I would ever vote for her. I’d rather us teach that the tooth fairy rides down from the heavens on the horns of her herd of purple sparkly unicorns to mate with the Lucky Charms leprechaun rather than having religious mythology presented as fact in the public schools. I am all in favor of her raising her children with her beliefs… and I want to continue to enjoy the freedom to raise mine as I see fit too. I am deeply troubled by abortion but remain pro-choice because I trust women to listen to their gut, their goddess, their economic situation, their dog, whatever, to make the right choice for themselves and their families.

Keeping it focused on the issues, I think we’ve just started to scratch the surface with what’s truly troublesome about this woman: her membership in the Alaska Independence Party. Let me get this straight… after carrying on for a year about how “radical” Obama is, the Republicans put a secessionist on their ticket? Maybe we want to take a look into that one. Because I’m pretty sure we’re not going to let Alaska break up with us that easily.

I can’t help but have my heart swell a little with hope, watching this woman who got herself onto a national ticket all by herself. Not on her husband’s coattails. Not because the people of a state elected her to office after feeling so very sorry for her public humiliation due to her husband’s indiscretions.

I’d feel a whole lot better about her place on the ticket if choosing her weren’t so very disingenuous, so very cynical. In their eagerness to make this extremely cynical choice, it strikes me that the McCain campaign all but skipped the vetting process. And something tells me that all of the political skeletons aren’t out of that closet just yet.

Mad props to The Daily Kos for the picture.

You’re right of course. We all need to calm down and look at positions on the issues and that’s it.

Wow – sooooo well said. What can I say..I’m superficial and the thing that stood out the most last night for me was her daughter giving her son a spit bath on his head.

Truly think you and your take on this rocks!

Carolyn, I promise I will never tell you to calm down!

Meredith, that girl was too flippin’ precious, and she has a pretty normal name to boot.

    Irene thanks for stopping by!

W trying to change the constitution based on his religious beliefs was bad enough, I don’t want that stuff in the classroom.

The woman supports Jews for Jesus, that’s a slap in the face to anyone of faith (and even those without it).

Don’t get me started on the aerial wolf hunting.

Whit, sing it. There are plenty of reasons to be skeptical of Ms. Palin – and none of the reasons important to me have anything to do with her children. Or her appearance. Or her reproductive organs.

Yeah, I don’t know about her. Loved the speech, love the woman thing, peeved about all of the “what about her young children” whining, not on board with her social conservatism necessarily.

But in more important news, I’d really like to see the baby from that ill-advised unicorn/cereal gnome mating…

but i WILL criticize her for bringing a 4 month old to the convention and having him passed around like a sack of potatoes way past his bedtime in a room with deafening applause and lots of people/germs. that horrified me. (special needs aside….)
